Artist Statement

My name is Dominica Baker and I am a Ceramic Artist residing in beautiful Southeast Arizona. My work can be purchased by contacting me at dlbaker@powerc.net

I enjoy creating both 3-D and 2-D art.

I suppose I should tell the world what inspires me to create art.  I was given a gift by God and I believe that any gifts I am given in this life are meant solely for the purpose of sharing with others.

My inspiration comes from many sources. To limit what inspires me, limits the creative process.  Besides, there is nothing I can create that hasn’t been preordained into existence.  Knowing this, I don’t worry if an idea isn’t coming together or I fail, I just keep moving forward.

The style of my work is a mix of industrial and art nouveau. I like seeing the process in a work of art. Art Nouveau has a not so overbearing feminine quality I like. I like the combination of these two styles, they can compliment each other or oppose each other and I like having that option.

    Dominica,

V told me about your show a long while back and gave me a website to see your work.
I think your work is lovely, thoughtful and varied and you are very talented, as is your daughter who I look forward to working with again this coming semester. I hope your show is going well.

    Best regards,

    Barbara (Penn)

      Barbara,

Thank you for your encouragement and the kind words about my work. Also, thank you for being such a wonderful example to Vienna. She admires you as an artist, mentor, and professor. She is looking forward to this semester in your class, and I am looking forward to seeing the work that she creates in your class.

      Sincerely,

      dominica l baker
